A warm treatment room — cream walls, oak table, afternoon light through an arched window

Physio & movement studio · Portland

Your body remembers how to be well.

Mend is a physiotherapy and movement studio on Southeast Division. We don't chase pain around your body with a clipboard — we listen, align, rebuild, and hand you back a body you trust.

The studio

It starts with tea, not paperwork.

Your first visit is a full seventy-five minutes, and for the first stretch of it you keep your shoes on. We watch you walk in, sit down, reach for the mug — the ordinary Tuesday version of you, because that's the one that hurts. Then we talk: what you've stopped doing, what you're bracing for, what 'better' would actually look like on a weekend.

The room is warm on purpose. No strip lighting, no curtained cubicles, nobody in scrubs. One practitioner, one hour, one plan — and you leave the first session already knowing what your body has been trying to say.

The Mend Method™

Four steps. One direction: back to your life.

Every body that walks in moves through the same four steps — at its own pace, never anyone else's.

  1. Listen

Pain is a message, not a verdict. Your first hour is mostly questions — where it hurts, yes, but also how you sleep, what you carry, what you quietly stopped doing. We take the full statement before we treat anything.

  2. Align

Bodies are loyal — they compensate. The hip does the knee's job; the shoulder covers for the wrist. We find the pattern and make small corrections by hand, explained in plain English, until standing simply feels easier.

  3. Rebuild

Relief is the start, not the finish. We load the tissue on purpose — carefully, progressively, at the pace your body earns — so the pain doesn't return the moment life does. This is where twelve weeks changes your posture.

  4. Return

The goal was never the studio. The plan ends with you back in your life — running your loop, lifting your kid, gardening without negotiating with your knees. You leave owning the plan, with a door you can always come back through.

The proof

Twelve weeks, same person.

Same client, same doorway, same camera. The left side is week one — the guarded shoulders, the hip that carried everything. The right side is what the method looks like when a body stops bracing. Drag the line and watch the difference.

Posture at week twelve — level shoulders, weight even, standing tall without effort

Your first session

Here's exactly what happens.

Seventy-five minutes, three parts, zero mystery. Wear something you can move in.

  1. Assessment

We watch you move the way you actually move — walking, reaching, sitting — and map where your body has been compensating. You'll see what we see, on your own body, in the mirror.

  2. Hands-on

Treatment starts the same day. Manual therapy, dry needling where it earns its place, and the first small corrections — you should feel a difference before you feel a technique.

  3. Your plan

You leave with the whole arc: what's going on, how long it takes, and the three things to do this week. Written down, in your words, with the next session already making sense.

Sessions

Priced like we plan to fix it.

The practitioners

The hands behind the method.

Credentialed to the teeth, allergic to jargon. Book a person, not a slot.

Maya Okonkwo

DPT, OCS · Founder

Doctor of Physical Therapy, board-certified in orthopaedics, and the reason the method has a name. Fifteen years of listening to bodies. Runs the Wildwood Trail most mornings with a dog who sets the pace.

June Park

DPT · Movement & rebuild

Doctor of Physical Therapy and a former ballet dancer, which means she can spot a compensation from across the room. Owns the rebuild phase. Spends Sundays at the bouldering gym, mostly falling on purpose.

Sam Fletcher

LMT · Hands-on therapy

Licensed massage therapist with a decade in sports recovery and the strongest quiet hands in the building. Restores old canoes on weekends and swears the two skills are the same one.

What came back

I danced at my daughter's wedding in September. In May I couldn't do stairs without the rail. Maya never once told me to just rest it.
Ruth CallowayTwelve weeks, hip
Three clinics treated my knee. June watched me walk for thirty seconds and found it in my hip. I ran the waterfront loop in March.
Devon MarshThe rebuild, week nine
My back hasn't had an opinion since spring. I garden on my knees now like it's nothing, because it is nothing.
